The entire book is. Bad plot, bad characters, too melodramatic, and boring as SHIT

The Stranger > The Great Gatsby
War and Peace > The Great Gatsby
Being shot in the head > The Great Gatsby
Communism > The Great Gatsby

THAT is how bad it is

I listened to it as a book on tape and thought it was quite nifty.

Sooooo horrible, but The Stranger is still worse. At least Gatsby wasn't really boring.

Gatsby is boredom incarnate. I had more trouble getting through the 150+ pages of that book than the 1000+ pages of War and Peace. Really.

How the hell did I overlook this thread for so long?
Damnit Gato, The Great Gatsby is a great book!
You read Rand for god's sake, I couldn't finish Atlas Shrugged if my life depended on it.
And if you won't at least cede to that, you can surely at least agree that anything Dan Brown writes is much worse than horse shit.

Horsefeathers. You'd kill to be able to write as well as Fitzgerald. Admit it.

I don't consider Dan Brown serious literature. His stuff is a kind of fast-food literature. I don't care for it, but you can't compare anything he has done with a world-renowned work such as the great gatsby.

I was just so furious that I threw out random stuff,
Anyway, why is it world-renowned?
because it's a good book, why would people read it otherwise, besides for school
