IA = infernal affairs, the hong kong film that the departed was a remake of.

i like both versions, but IA moreso, probably because i saw it first and the characterizations were better.Never heard of it.Is it in English or dubbed or even worse subtitled?

What? Why on earth would you want somethiing dubbed, unless you were with some friends and had some drugs? It's a Hong Kong film, therefore it is in Cantonese.Well I don't speak Cantonese so I was wondering in which method is it in english.

Yeah but why are subs even worse? :lol:Cause when reading the lines you can't pay attention to the scene and many times the words change before you're finished reading them.

After you watch enough movies subtitled, you can read the words and pay attention to what is happening on screen at the same time. :)

yeah and also the dubbing sometimes screws up the plot.

the first time i saw a better tomorrow i couldn't follow the plot at all because the dialogue made no sense. plus, the voices were horrendous and just ruined the movie.

when i saw it again subtitled, it was a totally different film.

Bad subtitling is fucking atrocious. Be it non-English speakers who really don't know the language or just native speakers who can't be bothered, there is no excuse for lines like "he die. be like him to run."

Bad dubbing is not as bad because in many cases it's trully excellent. Of course, it depends on the film and also your mood, but lines like "give a guy a gun he thinks he's superman. give him two he thinks he's god" never get old.

Anyway, to chose dubbing over subtitling - even if it's good dubbing - is an insult to the film. You'll lose the performance and any real sense of drama. It doesn't take long to get used to watching and reading at the same time - quite a basic skill if you think about it.

Bad hong kong subtitled films are perhaps the funniest things this Earth has to offer.

They are good, but you actually have to pay attention for those. Bad dubbing on the other hand you can simply sit back and let it all over-whelm you.
