'Art'? I think the word you are looking for is 'shite'

It disappointed me too. With Alex Garland and Danny Boyle writing and directing this, I expected something that would completely redefine sci-fi, the way 28 Days Later redefined horror.

Instead, it was basically just nonstop homages to earlier sci fi films.

Being blasted from space into an airlock without a space suit: taken from 2001
Pinbacker: taken from Dark Star
Cockpit design: taken from Alien
Ship designed to deliver a massive bomb: also taken from Dark Star
Riding the bomb down to its target: taken from Dr. Strangelove

Visually, the movie was astounding, but it just wasn't original enough.

This could explain why I found the movie so enjoyable: I hated 28 Days Later, and was expecting a really cheesy disaster flick, so I was pleasantly surprised.
